Community Matters Award

The Community Matters Award is presented annually to organizations or individuals who have exceeded their community service mandate and have made a significant, deliberate contribution to Abbotsford School District students. Nominations for the Community Matters Award were collected from November 2024 through April 15, 2025. A total of five nominations were received for the 2025 Community Matters Award. The Award Selection Committee reviewed all submissions. Following a thoughtful review, the Selection Committee selected the Abbotsford Police City Basketball Tournament Organizing Committee as the 2025 award recipient.

Ross Elementary - Technology Supports Equity

Principal Kristen Vogel and her team showcased how digital tools supported equity by meeting a range of student learning needs, from enrichment to literacy support. Students shared personal stories of growth, while staff demonstrated the impact of personalized tech-based interventions in literacy and social studies.

Harry Sayers Elementary -  Classroom Camping Unit

Ms. Rennison, teacher at Harry Sayers Elementary, shared her beloved classroom camping unit, now in its 15th year, highlighting its impact on student engagement, independence, and teamwork through immersive, hands-on experiences. Students, many new to camping, shared how the immersive unit built independence, excitement, and lasting memories through songs, games, and storytelling.

National Skills Canada Competition

W.J. Mouat students Aiden Reitsema and Atticus Brummitt represented Abbotsford at the National Skills Canada Competition, where Atticus earned bronze in carpentry. Their success highlights the strength of the district’s trades programs and the value of real-world learning experiences.

Dr. Gwen Point receives an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from UFV

The Board recognized Dr. Point's achievements and the shining example she provides for Indigenous people at Abbotsford School District.

Education

Strategic Plan and Budget for 2025-2026

Superintendent Nosek and Acting Secretary-Treasurer Nathan Ngieng presented the budget for 2025-2026. A motion was carried to have all three readings of the Annual Budget Bylaw for Fiscal Year 2025/2026 in this one meeting. The School District No. 34 (Abbotsford) Annual Budget Bylaw for Fiscal Year 2025-2026, specifying a total budget amount of $289,567,458 was passed and adopted on this 17th day of June, 2025.

Update on Personal Digital Device Restrictions

Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nathan Ngieng provided an update on the implementation of personal digital device restrictions, introduced under Ministry guidelines just over a year ago. Feedback from schools suggests that the policy has supported existing school-based practices, reduced classroom disruptions, and led to more consistent approaches across schools. The update was welcomed as a strong first step, with further support and refinement expected in the year ahead.

Proposed Public Board Meeting Schedule for 2025-2026

Board of Education approved the proposed Public Board Meeting Schedule for 2025-2026 as presented.

Amended Capital Bylaw No. 2025/26-CPSD34-02

The Board approved all three readings of the Amended Capital Bylaw in a single sitting. The amendment included the addition of funding for a third school bus, recently approved by the Ministry of Education.

Trustee Election Candidate Information Session

MLA Korky Neufeld ceased to be a trustee due to legislation in passed on May 27, 2025.  In keeping with tradition, the school district will host an information session for interested candidates to learn more about the process and about the schools.
